After nearly half a year of planning, communicating and preparation, the international photography exhibition with the theme of "Knowing Wuhan" unveiled online on Pageflow on February 18, with the witness of more than 100 Chinese and foreign audiences. Team of professor Wolfgang Swoboda from Hamburg university of science and technology selected 78 representative works from hundreds of photos taken by professor Shen from Wuhan Textile University. The online exhibition form of photography presented Wuhan before, during and after the epidemic, showing a panoramic picture of a city's victory against COVID-19.

"Knowing Wuhan" is a new media special photography of an image city memory project done by Professor Shen Xiangsheng, School of Media of Wuhan Textile University, from 2019. Before that he had spent more than 10 years visiting the streets of Wuhan, photographing the city's history and changes, and using images to retain Wuhan's life and culture. He has published photographic monographs such as River City Memory, City texture and others. His work "Knowing Wuhan" was approved by Hubei Province Literature and Art Creation Support Project this year. The daily and heart-touching photography works of Professor Shen Xiangsheng created in the unusual day of 2020 leads the audience to know Wuhan, and to know “the provincial capital of Hubei Province which located on the banks of the Yangtze River at the center of China: The city herself, her streets, her people, and daily life here.” It shows the calm and depth of Wuhan facing the severe epidemic moment.

Teachers and students from Wuhan Textile University and Hamburg University of Applied Technology have maintained very close exchanges and sharings as early as before the epidemic. Since 2016, Professor Shen Xiangsheng of the School of Media of Wuhan Textile University and Professor Wolfgang Swoboda of Hamburg University of Applied Technology have built a bridge of long-term exchanges and cooperation between China and Germany through classroom teaching and practice of visits between teachers and students. In 2018 and 2019, the two schools jointly launched the same courses as "Understanding Wuhan: Sino-German Students 360° Panoramic Photography" and "Urban Data Visualization". In June 2019, the two school teachers and students brought the cross-cultural photography works of Wuhan and Hamburg students to the Hamburg city hall for exhibition. In 2021, Professor Swoboda and Professor Shen communicated with the idea of taking the special experience of the epidemic in Wuhan as part of the public selection practice courses. It is hoped that with the help of these precious images, western people, especially Hamburg, will know the real Wuhan. Professor Swoboda also applied for a special international exchange fund from the school, and strive to make that the exhibition could present the original intention of the photographer and the original context of the works.
